        13 years ago, Jiaozhou Bay bridge and Jiaozhou Bay tunnel were constructed and began to service, ending the history that two sides could only cross the bay through highways and ferries. Jiaozhou Bay 2^nd tunnel is designed to ease the burden of increasing traffic caused by the economic advance. For the total length of 17.48km,  Jiaozhou Bay 2^nd tunnel is expected to be the longest undersea highway tunnel after completion. The creation of Jiaozhou Bay 2^nd tunnel represents that the history of “one bridge and one tunnel” in Jiaozhou Bay has gone and it has entered a new era of “one bridge and two tunnels”.

       ZHIGAO Machinery Assists Three Sections Construction of 2^nd Tunnel

        The total length of 3-section project is 7094.5m, which is constructed by China Railway Tunnel Group Co., Ltd. The stratum in this section mainly consists of granite with high hardness, thus blasting method is adopted for fractured rocks. The underground 3-boom face drilling rig - UJ33, developed and manufactured by ZHIGAO Machinery, plays an important role during the blasthole drilling process. The equipped Cummins engine of 177 kw provides strong power; in combination with ZY104M rock drill, UJ33 has low consumption of drilling tools because of their prolonged service life. There are two sets of UJ33 operating simultaneously, therefore 6 booms are drilling holes at various directions and locations, which greatly improves drilling efficiency to ensure the progress of the construction.                                

        Promote Traffic Efficiency to Facilitate City Integration

        As a super engineering, Jiaozhou Bay 2^nd tunnel has set a number of world records, whose completion will vastly enhance the traffic efficiency between main urban area and west coast new area of Qingdao city to further strengthen the communication between the two sides. Besides, Jiaozhou Bay 2^nd tunnel will allow medium and small-sized trucks to pass through according to the planning scheme, while Jiaozhou Bay tunnel does not have the function at present. There is no doubt that Jiaozhou Bay 2^nd tunnel will bring fruitful benefits for citizens’ living and companies’ production.
