The 2026 Garrett Master Technician Challenge, organized by Garrett Aftermarket, ran from September 2 to 30. Robbin Chen, founder of Guangzhou Shenyue Machinery Technology Co., Ltd., took part with a hands-on video on Garrett turbocharger fault diagnosis and maintenance, exchanging techniques with technicians from across the country.
The challenge invites technicians industry-wide to submit an original video of at least one minute of practical Garrett turbo know-how — fault diagnosis and troubleshooting, installation and maintenance techniques — with the Garrett turbocharger itself on camera. Entries are scored by a panel of Garrett engineers and marketing staff, weighted together with public voting: 60% expert / 40% vote for the Gold Master Award, and 30% expert / 70% vote for the Technical Elite Award.
Chen's entry starts from a real workshop scenario and draws on more than two decades of parts supply and technical service experience. It focuses on the pre-lubrication step for a brand-new turbocharger before startup — with the rotor spinning at over a hundred thousand revolutions per minute, a single dry start can seize a brand-new unit — breaking down this frontline know-how into check steps fellow technicians can apply directly.
That confidence comes from a long partnership. Shenyue's cooperation with Garrett began in 2017, when the company was formally appointed an authorized Garrett distributor. Over the nine years since, Shenyue has supplied genuine Garrett turbochargers and parts to repair shops, fleets and distributors, backed by application support, diagnostics and after-sales service that help customers cut downtime to a minimum.
Robbin Chen comes from the technical side. From 2002 to 2007 he worked at China Kobelco as a technician, warehouse supervisor and service manager, founding Shenyue in 2007 and focusing on excavator parts for nearly two decades. The company has grown from a single parts trading line into a one-stop supplier covering nine systems — engine parts, hydraulic pumps and control valves, swing and travel motors, fuel injection systems, turbochargers, sensors and electrical parts and more — with over 3,000 part types in stock and more than 100,000 part numbers available to order, serving customers in over 30 countries and regions. Shenyue is an independent parts supplier and is not an official Kobelco authorized dealer; Mitsubishi, Garrett, TONGMYUNG, NIKURA and Marusan are among the brands the company is formally authorized to distribute.
"For technicians, these exchanges always come back to one question: how do we keep the customer's machine running and keep their costs down," Chen said after the event. "Entering a competition like this is a check on your own hands-on feel — and a chance to bring frontline experience back into the company, into how we select parts and support customers after the sale."
From November 23 to 27, 2026, Shenyue Machinery will exhibit at Stand E4.187, Shanghai New International Expo Centre. The company will highlight Garrett turbochargers alongside its full range of Kobelco excavator parts, with on-site part-number look-up and application support.
